The Great Italian Gelato Throwdown, Part 2 – Florence

As the birthplace of gelato, we expected Florence to have the very best gelato. It did not disappoint. For this visit, we were in town forless than 24 hours, so, we had to hit it hard.

First, Dei Neri – Via dei Neri, 9/11, 50122 – had one of the best pistachios ever, and, the coconut was very worthwhile. 9 of 10. dei neri

Perche No! – Via dei Tavolini, 19R, 50122 was very good, and had the most interesting flavor – Peach and Mango Curry. 9 of 10.

Our biggest disappointment in the city happened at Amorino – Via del Corso, 44/46r, 50122. We’ve been big fans of Amorino for a few years now, so, we were distraught to go for the big, piggie sized coppo and find it to be mediocre. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. 7.5 of 10.

Fortunately, our favorite of all time remains stellar. La Carraia has 2 locations now. We tried LC2 at Via de’ Benci, 24/r, 50122. I’ve been dreaming of their chocolate mousse semifreddo for months and, ohhhhhh my gracious. It was all I could do to restrain myself from putting my face into the container and chewing. Still the very best. Absolute perfection 11 of 10. It just doesn’t get any better. IMG_1125
