After sunset, we went to see the Shwedagon Pagoda. It is a humongous group of temples. I was feeling kind of templed out after seeing zillions of churches and mosques and temples in the last 6 months, but this one was definitely worth seeing.
Did you know the main pagoda is 100 meters high and it is covered in more than 60 TONS of gold? There is also an 87 karat diamond at the very top. There is one thing that is very different about all of the Buddhas here from everywhere else. They all have these halos made of LED lights that blink and swirl around the head of each statue. My mom thinks it looks like Las Vegas.
There were also monks and other people meditating. They were so still, they looked like they were statues.
